Bird of Prey 2

ThisĀ Tricolored Heron photo was taken at a small lake in the Mount Vernon subdivision near my home. The next post will show this bird the instant after it captured the Scarlet Skimmer. The Skimmer was introduced into the “New World” via commerce with Asia. It took hold in Jamaica, Florida, and Hawaii. It’s now an integrated part of our natural food chain, much to the liking of egrets and herons. Hermine’s thoughts are again on my mind.

Reflections on Steppenwolf & Hermine

A tasty treat this bird does spy;
Its gaze is on that small red fly,
A dragon fly from far away;
From Asia, now it’s here to stay.
I do not think the bird is glad;
I think all animals look sad.
Hermine agreed and spoke this gem;
When we are sad we look like them.
