Apology to a Canada Goose

This Canada Goose photo was taken at Spring Lake on Anna Maria Island. Although we have a seasonal migratory population of Canada Geese in Florida, there is a subspecies that was released as a game bird in the 1960’s. These released birds are non-migratory, and they are now permanent Florida residents.

If you get anthropomorphic about bird behavior, then the Canada Goose ranks as a noble bird despite the poop that bothers many people! The apology below was for calling the Double Crested Cormorant’s toy Goose a “rubber ducky” in the first page of this story.

Apology to a Canada Goose

I’m told you are upset with me
So this is my apology
That rubber ducky looked so sad
And the blue eyed bird looked so glad
But you’re a bird with stately glow
I’ll write this verse so all will know
——
A stately moment
Noble bird in many ways
True to spouse and child
