This Sulcata Tortoise photo was taken on Palma Sola Blvd near my home. The Tortoise is in a neighbor’s driveway having lunch. It appeared one day out of the wild, and the neighbor adopted it. It is no longer feral. Florida has laws prohibiting the release of non-native species into the wild, but some people do it anyway. Some of these released non-native pets have become a huge problem in FL. The Python has become a serious problem in the Everglades. My Birding Buddies are simply any interesting animal or plant that strikes my fancy while I’m chasing birds:
Birding Buddies – Feral Sulcata Tortoise
While tracking down a Broad-winged Hawk,
I wandered down this old sidewalk.
I met a neighbor on my way;
We talked and had a lot to say.
As time for me to leave drew near,
This lovely creature did appear.
Sometimes my mood sees only gloom;
But sights like this make my joy bloom.
