Although unit conversion problems are simple direct proportion problems, the use of "dimensional analysis" is often a convenient shortcut for doing multiple unit conversions. Check the details of the following example and then try the Problem-On-The-Fly at the bottom of the page:

125000 Joules = ? Kilocalories    (Given: 4.18 J/cal )

125000 J * (1.00 cal / 4.18 J) * (1.00 kcal / 1000 cal) = 29.9 kcal
